There are several initiatives that advertise being ready for the Metaverse; nevertheless, this might rapidly turn into a stale selling point for the product. What exactly does it mean to be Metaverse ready, and why should you even care about achieving that status in the first place? I hope to use this article to explain what I have been expanding with Android:444 and the Phettaverse. I explained a bit of it in my article “MAKING CLOCK REALM MULTIVERSE,” but I’d love to explain a bit more about what this means for you as the user!
The concept of being “Metaverse ready” typically refers to the capability of easily transporting an object or avatar across various platforms that are part of the “Metaverse” ecosystem and being able to easily use them for their intended purpose without requiring a great deal of prior knowledge or coding experience. VRChat, Webaverse, NeosVR, and JanusXR are a few examples of these; however, there are many more!
The idea of being limited to a specific platform feels so pointless and boxed in, the Metaverse is not one platform, not everyone is going to want to use Facebooks Metaverse, or any other major platform, the ability to share the files needed to easily drag and drop your object into a 3D world is what is truly liberating.
A great example of this is the file format called VRM. What is VRM? VRM is a platform-independent file format designed for use with 3D characters and avatars in the modern VR landscape. In addition to conventional information such as textures and bones for 3D models, the file format can also handle information necessary for first-person avatars such as gaze settings, etc.
How would you use a VRM File? Webaverse is a great example of this! Pictured below, I grabbed the VRM file for Android:444 and drag and dropped it into the game window, doing this prompts an upload window that allows me to equip this avatar or drop it on the floor. If you follow below I’ll go ahead and equip it.
My goal with Android:444 and the characters I create is to allow people that collect these creatures can actively become them and share that identity wherever they go within the Metaverse! I have actively ported Android:444’s world into multiple platforms in the hopes to allow users to actively make a choice of what platform they wish to experience it in!
