I've mentioned it in a lot of my previous articles, hell, I even mention it on the front of my website with that silly little roadmap, whatever a roadmap is.. What I do know is it allowed me to set a goal, and with enough support and motivation I was able to complete that goal, with some pretty good results I'd say so myself as well!
In my previous article, I went over mainly creating the actual 3D models and my plans to make it actually playable. During this time, I did in fact get the world on VRChat, you can even play it now on Quest or PC!
Being able to explore the map and even hop into the Phetta Karts on VR is crazy! But I wanted more from myself, I wanted to put together an actual game that could be hosted via my browser and easy to access. I thought, why not go for an actual Karting game, this would probably be the easiest way to hop into game development and I could also make something really vibey!
In the original version of the game, the main gameplay was getting all the checkpoints and completing the lap, but I thought that was a bit too simple, and I wanted to add a few more layers to it in a sense.
After a bit of playing around, I was able to add some other gameplay action pieces with the shroom collection, multiple laps, and the checkpoints, that way it gives the user a bit more to do instead of completing the game in 30 seconds, they can complete it in a minute now! A bit better!
I think what I struggled the most with during this game jam was actually getting it to display on Opensea as an actual NFT. It turns out opensea just doesn't like self-hosted things and prefers IPFS! Silly me!
Overall I managed to make this full game within 4-5 hours. I was actually shocked, I think it's a mix of playing in VRchat world which uses unity, and really just waking up with some good brain energy that day that allowed me to bust that out and get my true vision to become a reality. My first ever Phettaverse game. Now I've made games in the past, I actually made a game called Clown world, it was a 2D pixel side scroller very similar to the game yummi nikki! It actually used the same game engine which was RPG Maker!
I love weird and trippy games, and I am excited to use my inspiration as well as the worlds I have been building to dive deeper into the game dev world. My next goal will be a platformer and a multiplayer-style game :3 Excited to keep people updated!
In previous articles, I also mentioned wanting to create a game similar to LSD Dream emulator. I really enjoy the low poly/weird texture energy that game provides, and the texturing for the Phetta Dreamstate kart world was def inspired by it.
